Honey Jar 03:58
Standin’ on the back of that train with your open arms Lookin’ at the big sky listenin' to the smoke alarm You wonder what happened guess your heart must'a jumped the track Put your lips out in the wind and you hope you get some kissin' back Every night you get the same old dream There’s a spoon full of honey where your heart should be And there's Honey drippin' off your spoon Honey drippin' off your spoon White skin freckles big hard candy green eyes Bet you wish you had your red headed woman back sometimes The last thing you got was a left handed letter And you opened up the seal like you didn't even know better Every night you get the same old dream There’s a spoon full of honey where your heart should be And there's Honey drippin' off your spoon Honey drippin' off your spoon Don’t you know your spoon's gettin' low You worry and you wonder just where all the honey goes But if you hope it and you pray real hard If you will it you can wish it Heaven is a Honey Jar

The Muse 03:21
As I sit on the edge of this never made bed Old guitar in my lap a new tune in my head There she stands in the doorway just brushin' her hair It's my beautiful muse in her underwear And if I was thinkin' I’d be thinkin' thank God whoever you are For the muse and this old guitar Times like these so sweet and so true Thinkin’s the last thing that you wanna do As I sit on the end of this dirty old bar Tryin’ to work some things out and not gettin' too far And I drown out the voices that are keepin' me down There’s a muse all alone on the other side of town And if I was thinkin' I’d be thinkin' thank God whoever you are For all the whiskey in this dirty old bar Times like these so sad but so true Thinkin’s the last thing that you wanna do Thinkin’s the last thing that you wanna do As I sit on the bed in this hospital room Sheddin’ a tear for the bride and groom The tiniest voice starts to bellow and cry It’s my finest work yet if today I should die And if I was thinkin' I’d be thinkin' thank God whoever you are For the muse and the miracle right here in my arms Times like these so sweet and so true Thinkin’s the last thing that you wanna do Thinkin’s the last thing that you wanna do Thinkin’s the last thing that you wanna do

Hello I’m Lonely, I sweep up the place I go in early and I come home late And one thing I never forget is a face You keep me around You keep me around Hello I’m Sad, I know I get in the way You sit and you wonder how long I’m gonna stay While I show you the rainbow in all shades of grey You keep me around (I bring you down) You keep me around (I bring you down) Hello I’m Faith and I might be blind But I’m the one's gonna keep towin' the line And you land on your feet almost every time You keep me around (I won't let you down) You keep me around (I won't let you down) Sad and Lonely, they go and come You think you don't need 'em but you gotta have some Try askin' the Dark where the Light comes from Hello I’m Faith and I might be blind But I’m the one's gonna keep towin' the line And you land on your feet almost every time You keep me around (I won't let you down) You keep me around (I won't let you down)

It’s hard to be fair when you're fightin' It’s hard to be nice when you lose You wish you were thunder and lightnin' And all you are Is stuck with the blues Do you gotta be lost to be found Who the devil spins the world around Before you know the sun's up it goes down Do you gotta be lost to be found Who the devil spins the world around Well it is what it is and it isn't what it ain't Doesn’t matter what it was cause you know it's gonna keep on You can't keep me from laughin' And I can't keep you from cryin' It’s hard to say just what's happenin' We could be crashin' Or we could be flyin' Do you gotta be lost to be found Who the devil spins the world around Before you know the sun's up it goes down Do you gotta be lost to be found Who the devil spins the world around Well it is what it is and it isn't what it ain't Doesn’t matter what it was cause you know it's gonna keep on Keep on changin'

I’ve got nothin' to lose on this losin' streak Same that makes me strong Is the same that makes me weak I’ve got nothin' to hide from the sky above The same that makes me shame Is the same that makes me love I’ve got no use for the time of day Whatever happens will happen anyway I’ve got nowhere to go on this lonesome road The same that weighs me down Is the same that carries my load I’ve got nothin' to gain on this mountain high The same that makes me live Is the same that makes me die I’ve got no use for the time of day Whatever happens will happen anyway

Firewater 04:03
Her hair and her clothes Were smellin' of smoke And her lips well they tasted like firewater First kiss I was buzzed Second I was in love I was high You think I'da learned All the times I was burned Deservin' the blues and I sure got 'em The drinkin' and pills The head shrinkin' bills they got high So if you taste lips of firewater Better make like a tree It’s a kiss you want no part of Better not wait and see Her stockings were torn Before she was born Her mother said she was a hard daughter No father around She’d just get down and get high So if you taste lips of firewater Better make like a tree That’s a kiss you want no part of Better not wait and see If you taste lips of firewater Get ready to bleed It’s a kiss you want no part of If you're anything like me

about

Recorded at Southern Ground Studios in Nashville, TN, “The Muse” mines The Wood Brothers' timeless influences and showcases their high-lonesome harmonies, Chris' virtuosic standup bass, Oliver's gritty acoustic guitars, and warrior poet lyrics. The title track reveals Oliver's songwriting at its most tender and autobiographical to date, while "Honey Jar," doubles up on a bluesy, raucous groove. "Wastin' My Mind" could pass for a lost track from "The Last Waltz," while "Neon Tombstone" drives home the brothers' now more deeply collaborative spirit. Throughout, Oliver's endearingly offbeat vocals are more "gripping" (The New York Times) than ever, with Chris' and Jano's dialed-in harmonies providing rich, rustic texture.
